Smile…

Always remember to be happy
because you never know who’s
falling in love with your smile.

On the first day of his cruise, an elderly gentlemen noticed an attractive woman about his age. She smiled at him as she passed on the deck. Later that evening as he approached his dinner table, he noticed the same woman. He sat next to her and began the conversation by telling her how much he appreciated her smile earlier on the deck. She smiled again and gently said, “I smiled because when I saw you I was immediately struck by your strong resemblance to my third husband.”

“Oh” he says, “how many times have you been married?” he asked with interest. She looked down at her dinner plate, and that beautiful smile appeared again. Gingerly she answered “Twice”.

The power of a smile! It can change someone’s life, it can change attitudes and it can invite others in. A smile encourages!

A smile costs nothing, but gives so much. A smile takes but a moment, but the memory can last forever. Some people are too tired to give you a smile, but you can always give them one of yours. You can be cheerful and pass that cheer on with simple SMILE!!

I was watching a 20/20 special on changing lives in the most desperate third world countries. 20,000,000 low-birth weight and premature infants are born each year…450 die each hour in developing country, because of simple hyperthermia. The infants can’t maintain their own body temperature and do not have access to an incubator.  Stanford grad students invented an insulated sleeping bag for infants so that they can have a chance to live. The sleeping bags are kept warm by paraffin wax that hold heat at 98 degrees for 4 hours and is heated by hot water. Ingenious – saving lives – and the way the mothers know the bag is warm and ready is by a SMILE that appears. A universal symbol of happiness, trust and with “embrace” a symbol for life. Check out their story at http://embraceglobal.org/ A simple smile tells the mother all will be okay. Remember this when dipping your hands in paraffin wax at the spa next time and gently smile knowing how else this wax is used to help infants.

Everytime you smile at someone,
it is an action of love,
a gift to that person,
a beautiful thing.
