As we hussle to get our children and bustle to all the activities we signed them up for, what are we really doing? Children need down time, for that matter, parents need down time.
Time for families to eat a meal together;
time for families to have a game night;
time for families to snuggle on the couch with a good movie;
time for laughing together; singing off key together; being present for each other.
If we don’t take the time now, then when? Tomorrow, next month, next year. A wise sister once told me “there will be plenty of time to sleep when I’m gone.” As a single parent she was always on the move, always giving to her children, her job and her volunteer positions. But she paused in those moments…she soaked in the pleasure of parenting. She took family vacations, did puzzles at the table and enjoyed game nights with family friends.
Our hearts search for the pause, the quiet, the stillness.
Have you found your pause today? this week? this year?
You mush have a place to which you can go in your heart, your mind, or your home, almost every day, where you do not owe anyone and where no one owes you – a place that simply allows for the blossoming of something new and promising.
